This is my story, everything that has brought to this point, and what I can share with you. My journey of integrated experience began with a single step…
When I was at junior school in the 70’s my friend’s stepdad suddenly became a Buddhist. This felt quite extraordinary to me. I was fascinated by his shaved head, clothes, and his meditation room in the garden. He would spend a lot of time in there chanting or meditating, and none of it seemed weird to me. I remember loving the smell of incense all around their house. The whole thing aroused something in me.
Then, my cousin began to talk about meditation with me… This is the point where something deep in me knew that I would also experience and practice meditation – a calling if you will. Meanwhile, growing up had its ups and downs. I ended up with an eating disorder triggered in my late teens, which encompassed phases of feeling very low. Nonetheless, I knew that there had to be more to life than just being born, working, and dying – there had to be!!
This is when I started to actively explore things, anything, that could help me attain inner peace, because in my mind if I had inner peace, I had everything.
In the late 80’s the first book I read was ‘Creating Perfect Health’ by Deepak Chopra. He was a medical doctor who talked about the power of the mind. From there I decided to try Transcendental Meditation which he was an advocate for at the time.
It had started…
I discovered kinesiology through The One Brain® system. Kinesiology is a fascinating method of muscle testing working with the whole of a person. It helps to find answers to deep questions and solve problems whether they be physical, social, economic, relational, or spiritual. I found kinesiology to be a powerful tool, making me even more curious to know more about our humanity.
From there my courage grew. I left the UK to work in Bermuda , also attending North Carolina Metaphysical Healing College where I delved into as many courses as I could.
Working within the beauty and wellness industry, and studying nutrition, I was fascinated with how the body heals and repairs itself. I was naturally more interested in ancient traditions as opposed to Western medicine, although I recognised there is a place for both.
Prozac and bulimia
Despite my learning, I was still carrying an undealt with challenge – Bulimia – the eating disorder that had manifested in my teens. So, in the mid 90s I was put on Prozac to treat it. Despite taking it, I knew I needed to find another way to tackle the issue…
Come the noughties I was back in the UK. I plunged straight into Touch for Health, which is basically another course around kinesiology, enrolled in Tai Chi and became a level 2 Reiki practitioner.
By 2003 I was Prozac free, deep into energy healing and quantum physics, all keeping me uplifted without the use of pharmaceutical drugs.
I went to my first Kundalini Yoga class in 2011 and I was hooked!
One class a week managed to keep me elevated throughout those seven days, nothing was going to stop me from attending those weekly classes.
As above so below, as within so without…
By now I could see that the more I did for myself, the willingness to transform, the more receptive I was to opportunity – the more life gave me. As within so without…
I found myself attending a conference in London to see Dr Joe Dispenza. This man blew me away! Those early inklings I had about meditation were realised right here. I bought Joe’s book ‘Breaking the habit of being yourself’ and used it like a manual. Four years later I attended a 3-day workshop with him where it landed in my mind, the connection with Kundalini Yoga Breathwork and its healing effect upon the body. My synapses were wired!
I left that conference being able to read a text without my glasses. My eyes had improved purely from meditation and breath work taught at the workshop. I still only need to wear them for using the computer and tiny print. I continue with the meditation and breathwork daily, as an essential part of my life. How could I not!!
As a business owner lockdown shut me down for the duration. Although I wobbled as many of us did, I used this time as an opportunity to learn and recreate myself further. Bravely, I decided to share my Kundalini Yoga practice live online with a medical aesthetic group on Facebook. (I was in this group to learn more about how to sustain and increase my business). The positive response from the group was so encouraging that I decided to take the plunge and go for Kundalini Yoga teacher training.
Whilst I was undertaking the course, I assisted chanting meditations in our local park. A free of charge offering to enable people to connect with like-minded individuals. Again, the response was phenomenal, it had a very powerful and positive effect on all of us.
I qualified in October 2021 and started teaching live classes in November 2021.
Since qualifying, I’ve taught at a retreat in Gozo, Malta, a group while visiting friends in France, and have been involved in retreats locally as well as running my own weekly classes.
I remain a steady student in life as I continue to consciously attain wisdom, maturity, knowledge, and verve. I have never felt so prepared as I do now, to share what I have learnt with you.
Having walked my own path, as we do, I could be the solace, the conduit, the teacher, the inspiration you are looking for. We all need someone!
Held at: Shiloh, Clay Lane opposite Frederick Road Fishbourne PO19 3JG
